After my sister moved to Germany I had to visit her, and of course we had to experience the magic of the Christmas markets! Perusing the stalls for handmade goods, nibbling on traditional goodies like lebkucken and warming up with a mug of hot wine spiced with the flavors of the holidays we enjoyed every bit of the quintessential European Christmas market experience.
Since I can’t jet off to Germany every holiday season I brought a bit of the Christmas market spirit home with this homemade mulled wine recipe. It’s incredibly easy to make and perfect for any holiday gathering. - Feel free to add or substitute some of your favorite warming spices like fresh ginger, cardamom pods, allspice or nutmeg
- Change up the sweetness by using honey or maple syrup in place of the sugar
- Use brandy, whiskey or rum (aged or spiced) in place of the orange liqueur to customize our mulled wine
- Need to make a big batch? You can easily double or triple this recipe and use a large pot or use a slow cooker if you prefer not to use the stove
