Mulled Wine Recipe (Gluhwein)

Curl up with a mug of this traditional mulled wine (also known as gluhwein), simmered with citrus and holiday spices for the ultimate cozy winter drink. Perfect for parties or quiet nights in.

  • 1 medium saucepan

Ingredients
  

  • 1 750 mililiter bottle dry red wine
  • 1/4 cup orange liqueur
  • 1 orange sliced into rounds
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 7 whole cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 star anise

Instructions
 

  • Add the wine, orange liqueur, orange slices, sugar cinnamon, cloves and star anise to a medium saucepan and stir to combine.
  • Cook over medium heat until the wine reaches a simmer, sitrring occasionally. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes (take care not to let the wine boil).
  • Strain out the orange slices and spices.
  • Serve in heatlproof mugs or glasses, top with fresh orange slices and spices if desired.
