The Kentucky Buck is a modern classic cocktail. Created in 2009 by San Diego bartender Eric Castro the Kentucky Buck is a mix of bourbon, strawberry, citrus and ginger beer. A fruity, spicy take on a highball (take a look at my Bourbon Highball) the Kentucky Buck is a refreshing cocktail for spring and summer.
Ingredients for a Kentucky Buck
- strawberry
- bourbon
- lemon juice
- simple syrup
- Angostura bitters
- ice
- ginger beer
How to Make a Kentucky Buck
Add one strawberry to a cocktail shaker and muddle. Add bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup and Angostura bitters along with ice and shake for 15 seconds or until chilled. Strain into a highball glass with ice. Top with ginger beer. Garnish with a strawberry, lemon peel or mint as desired.

- 1 highball glass

- 2 oz bourbon
- 3/4 oz lemon juice
- 1/4 oz simple syrup
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- ice
- 3 oz ginger beer
