Garlic chili oil is a ubiquitous condiment across many different cuisines. Variations of garlic chili oil can be found in Calabria in Italy, in Turkey as well as throughout Asia. Garlic chili oil can be used on almost any dish where you’d like a bit of garlic spice, drizzle some on everything from pizza, grilled meats and seafood to veggies, noodles, dumplings and stir fries(I especially like a bit on my morning eggs at breakfast).
Ingredients for Garlic Chili Oil
- 8 garlic cloves, peeled and thinly sliced
- 3/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1.5 tbsp red pepper flakes
How to Make Garlic Chili Oil
This condiment is so simple that all of the ingredients are listed right in the name. Vegetable oil (or other neutral flavored oil), thinly sliced garlic ( I prefer sliced garlic vs minced as it’s less likely to burn) and red pepper flakes. Heat the vegetable oil and garlic in a small saucepan over medium heat. Cook for 4-5 minutes until fragrant and garlic is golden brown. Transfer the garlic and oil to a small glass jar and stir in red pepper flakes. Serve as desired.

I so want to make this, but can you please tell me if I can use fresh red chillis instead of dry? and if yes, how many or what weight? Thank you 🌶

I have not tried making this with fresh chilis but you can certainly do that. I would try with about 100 grams (4 oz of fresh chilis). If you try it please let me know how it goes!
