What is Agua Fresca?
Popular throughout Mexico, agua fresca is a refreshing drink make from blended fresh fruit, water, lime juice and a little sugar (though you can also use honey or agave nectar). I first had my first taste of traditional agua fresca when exploring the markets in Tepotzlan, Mexico while attending a wonderful cooking class at La Villa Bonita. For the best flavor choose ripe fruit for your agua fresca. Best served on the day it’s made, agua fresca will last for 3-4 days in the refrigerator though the fruit puree may settle and may need to be stirred before serving ( be sure to take a look at my Pineapple Agua Fresca recipe as well!).

How to Make Watermelon Agua Fresca
Making agua fresca from scratch couldn’t be more simple. In a high speed blender add 5 cups of cubed watermelon, the juice of 1 lime, 1/4 cup sugar and 2 cups of water to a high speed blender (I love this blender) and blend until smooth. Strain the agua fresca through a fine mesh strainer into a pitcher or a carafe. Refrigerate until chilled and serve as desired.
