Creamy, earthy and utterly delicious sweet potatoes are a versatile and tasty ingredient for autumn (or really any time of year). Instead of an overly sweet casserole I prefer to contrast the natural sweetness of sweet potatoes with the smoky heat of chipotle peppers. This recipe Chipotle Mashed Sweet Potatoes is easy to make and takes just minutes to prepare.

Chipotle peppers are smoked and dried jalapenos that can be found canned in a spicy tomato and vinegar sauce known as adobo. Chipotle peppers bring both heat and smokiness to a dish and are a perfect compliment to the natural honeyed sweetness of sweet potatoes. These chipotle mashed sweet potatoes are one of my favorite side dishes for Thanksgiving and are quick enough for weeknight dinner.

Ingredients for Chipotle Mashed Sweet Potatoes

What to Serve with Chipotle Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Chipotle mashed sweet potatoes are a delicious and versatile side dish that completes nearly any dinner. Pair with Maple Mustard Turkey Tenderloin or Pork Tenderloin with Burbon Apples for an autumn inspired dinner or pair it with Hot Honey Chicken Tenders, Smoked Tri Tip or Grilled Cedar Plank Salmon.

I added 2 T of brown sugar and maybe 1/8 c orange juice. It brought out the sweetness of the potatos without making it a “sweet” sweet potato dish.
