When it comes to feeding a group sliders are always a good bet, and these sliders take inspiration from Philadelphia’s most iconic sandwich. With grilled onions and bell peppers and gooey provolone this ode to a Philly favorite hits all the right notes. The cheesesteak is one of Philadelphia’s signature bites. A classic cheesesteak is made with thinly shaved ribeye and since I didn’t want to mess with perfection I used sliced ribeye here (though sirloin would also be a great option). Fried onions are traditional ( you can order your cheeseteak “wit” or “witout” onions) though peppers and mushrooms are also popular. When it comes to cheese you can go for Cheez Wiz, American, or my personal favorite provolone. How to Make Philly Cheesesteak Sliders
Preheat the oven to 350 ℉ while you prepare the sliders. Heat the olive oil in the cast iron skillet or griddle over medium high heat. Add the onions and green bell bepper and cook for 5 minutes or until the onions are soft and transluscent. Add the steak and sprinkle with salt, black pepper and Wochestershire. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the steak is cooked through. Remove the steak mixture from the heat and set aside.
Slice the rolls in half horizontally, making sure to keep them intact, and place them on a baking sheet. Spread the steak and onion mixture over the bottom half of the buns and top the steak with provolone cheese. Top with the remaining buns. Stir together the melted butter and remaining Worchestershire sauce and brush over the top of the buns. Sprinkle with the sesame seeds. Transfer the baking sheet to the oven and bake for 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the rolls are golden brown. Cut into individual sliders and serve as desired.
