I love a good ol’ classic burger just as much as the next person but sometimes I’m craving something a little different. A little bit spicy, a little bit fresh, but still with all the meatiness I like in a good burger these Greek lamb burgers with feta mint sauce are the next best thing to sitting beachside on a Greek island.
Ground lamb tends to be overlooked in the American kitchen, which it’s a shame because it’s delicious. Lamb is a common ingredient in cuisines throughout the Mediterranean making its easy into everything from Lebanese kebabs to Moroccan tagine but I find one of the easiest ways to prepare lamb is as a burger.
Greek burgers, known as biftekia, can be made with either lamb or beef. These burgers are filled with all kinds of fresh and dried herbs ( fresh mint and parsley, as well as dried oregano) along with smoky cumin and paprika ( Ilike smoked paprika for a little extra oomph). These burgers pack a flavor punch that is both familiar and unexpected.
How to make Greek Lamb Burgers
Making Greek lamb burgers couldn’t be easier. Using your hands mix together lamb, herbs, spices along with a little salt and pepper until thoroughly combined. Divide this equally into 4 patties, and when forming the patties make sure to create a divot in the center of each burger ( this helps to avoid the dreaded ‘burger ball’, or when the center of the burger puffs or during cooking). You can cook these burgers on the stove or the grill, either way they will be delicious.
How to Make Creamy Feta Mint Sauce
With Greek flavors infused throughout the burger an equally tasty sauce is in order and it doesn’t get much better than this feta mint yogurt sauce. Combine creamy Greek yogurt, crumbled feta , a healthy dose of fresh mint and a splash of lemon juice.
That’s it all it takes for creamy, herby goodness.
While brioche hamburger buns worked splendidly these burgers would also be great served in a pita or au natural if you’re on a low carb or Keto diet.
