If you ask me any holiday celebration calls for a good cocktail and drinks don’t get much more festive than this cranberry gin fizz. Herbaceous, bubbly, sweet and tart this cranberry gin cocktail is the perfect drink for the holiday season. Hang up the stockings, decorate the tree and mix up couple of these jewel colored cocktails for a dose of Christmas cheer. Easy to make, you can bet I’ll be sipping a cranberry gin fizz all season long.

About the Gin Fizz

Cranberry Gin Fizz Cocktail

The gin fizz was created in the late 1800s and first appeared in print in 1887 in Jerry Thomasโ€™s Bartenderโ€™s Guide . A traditional gin fizz contains gin, lemon juice, egg white, sugar and sparkling water though there are now endless variations. The Ramos Gin Fizz was invented by Henry C. Ramos in 1888 at the Imperial Cabinet Saloon in New Orleans. This version also contains cream and orange blossom water and became one of the most famous cocktails in New Orleans.

Can I Make a Gin Fizz without Egg White?

Cranberry Gin Fizz Cocktail

Egg white is used in cocktails to create a creamy, foamy layer on top. You certainly can make this cranberry gin fizz without using egg white, it won’t have the creamy top layer but it will still be delicious.

How to make a Cranberry Gin Fizz Cocktail

Cranberry Gin Fizz Cocktail

This cocktail has two separate shaking steps. The first is done without ice (this is called a dry shake) and is done to get a thick frothy layer, ice is added for the second shake to chill the drink. In a cocktail shaker add cranberry juice, gin and egg white and shake vigorously for at least 30 seconds. Add ice and shake again until well chilled (about 15 seconds). Strain into a champagne flute and top with ginger beer or ginger ale.
