Mexican crema is a condiment used in Mexico similar to sour cream that’s a staple in Mexican cooking. My homemade chipotle crema recipe is easy to make and packed with flavor, a delicious sauce that you can use on just about any dish.
This chipotle cream sauce is a great way to add a hit of spice and smokiness to your favorite dishes. Highly versatile you can use this crema a thousand different ways(and for another delicious recipe take a look at my Avocado Lime Crema).
- Drizzle chipotle crema over your favorite Mexican dishes like tacos, burritos or fajitas (It’s especially great with my Pineapple Chipotle Chicken Tacos or Sheet Pan Steak Fajitas!)
- Slather onto your favorite burger (delicious with my Smashed Avocado Turkey Burgers) or sandwich
- Add the finisihng touch to your protein bowls and burrito bowls

Ingredients
- Greek yogurt or sour cream
- Mayonnaise
- Chipotle peppers in adobo
- Fresh lime zestÂ
- Fresh lime juiceÂ
- Garlic
- Olive oil
- Kosher salt
- Ground black pepper
- Water (optional)
Cooking Tips
- You can use 1-2 teaspoons of chipotle powder in place of the chipotles in adobo.
- You can also swap 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder for the fresh garlic
- Don’t have a blender? You can also use your food processor or an immersion blender and container
- If you’d like to make this fully vegan or dairy-free version you can use dairy-free yogurt or cashew sour cream for the greek yogurt and vegan mayonnaise

How to Make Chipotle Crema
This chipotle sauce is simple to make and comes together in a snap with your blender doing all of the work.Add plain Greek yogurt (or sour cream if using), mayonnaise, chipotle peppers, zest and juice of 1 lime, garlic, olive oil, black pepper and a pinch of salt to a blender.
Blend on medium speed for 1-2 minutes until everything is combined and creamy. Add 1-2 tablespoons of water and blend as needed to get desired consistency.Transfer to a squeeze bottle or glass storage jar and serve as desired.
Storage
Store leftover chipotle crema in a squeeze bottle or airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Ingredients
- 3/4 cup Greek yogurt or sour cream
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1-2 chipotle peppers in adobo
- 1 teaspoon lime zest approx 1 lime
- 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice approx 1 lime
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1-2 tablespoons water optional
Instructions
- Add Greek yogurt (or sour cream if using), mayonnaise, chipotle peppers, zest and juice of 1 lime, garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper to a blender.
