Who doesn’t love cookies? I love a good old fashioned chocolate chip cookie as much as anyone else but sometimes its fun to change up a classic. Let’s switch up white chocolate for the traditional bittersweet chocolate chips and throw in some sublimely tart dried cherries and sweet dried blueberries while we’re at it. These cherry and blueberry white chocolate chip cookies are soft, chewy and sure to become a new classic.

Making cookies is equal parts art and science. Like your cookies chewy? We can make that happen. Crispy edges and soft in the middle? A few tweaks to any basic cookie dough recipe and you can make your perfect cookie. Using this guide to chocolate chip cookies I baked and tested and tasted countless batches of cookies ( I had to research these cookies thoroughly, right? ) in order to create everything I love in a cookie.
Butter and flour are the base of any cookie recipe but small changes to a basic cookie recipe can yield big changes in texture and flavor. Let’s talk sugar. I find using all brown sugar (instead of white sugar or a mix) brings a rich butterscotch flavor to these cookies. A mix of baking powder and baking soda in this dough create a cookie that’s soft and chewy.
Once the dough is made it’s time to add the fun stuff. Creamy white chocolate chips, bright dried cherries and sweet dried blueberries are all familiar flavors but bring an unexpected twist to these cookies. Also these cookies are red, white and blue making them a great dessert option for July 4, Election Day or any other patriotic celebration.

Cherry and Blueberry White Chocolate Chip Cookies
Equipment
- Baking Sheet
- Silicon baking pad or parchment paper
- Stand mixer or electric mixer
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature (1 stick, 18 tbsp or 4 oz)
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup plus 2 tbsp all purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 cup white chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup dried cherries
- 1/4 cup dried blueberries
Instructions
- In a stand mixer with a paddle attachment or with your electric mixer beat together the butter and brown sugar until fully combined, about 2 minutes. Add in egg and vanilla extract and beat until incorporated.
- In a large bowl whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Add this to the butter and brown sugar mixture gradually until the dough comes together. Stir in white chocolate chips, dried cherries and dried blueberries. Refrigerate overnight or 8-12 hours. (You can bake the cookies without the chill time but I find the flavor is a lot better with a rest in the fridge).
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Scoop dough into 1 and 1/2 tablespoon balls and place on prepared baking sheets, with at least 1 inch in between cookies. Bake cookies for 9-11 minutes. Cool on a rack for 5 minutes.

The white chocolate goes really well with the dried cherries and blueberries. I think I’ll make a double batch.

I feel like I always eff up something when I’m baking so I don’t do it really often. Your baking tips for tailoring to crispy vs chewy cookie preferences were super helpful! :]
