As late summer transitions to fall the best desserts feature ingredients that bridge both seasons. Juicy blackberries meet cinnamon spiced apples resulting in a delightful dessert that gets better with a buttery walnut streusel. This Apple Blackberry Crumble is an easy dessert that’s delicious any time of year.

Popular throughout Ireland and a favorite of Mary Berry (of Great British Bakeoff fame) there are as many variations of apple blackberry crumbles as there are bakers who make them. When it comes to apples the more cinnamon the better so I have a double dose in both the fruit and crumble topping. Instead of sautéing the apples before baking I prefer to mix them with a little sugar and let them macerate for at least 10 minutes to release some juice. I love the slightly crisp texture of the apples this way (and there’s one less dish to clean this way).
