Many turkey burgers have a tendency to be dry but a bit of panko breadcrumbs, egg and a dash of Worchestershire sauce help bind these burgers together and allow them to stay moist and juicy. Turkey burgers need to be cooked to an internal temperature of 165 degrees F and I highly recommend using a meat thermometer to check for the doneness.

Ingredients

  • ground turkey
  • panko bread crumbs
  • egg
  • garlic powder
  • onion powder
  • kosher salt
  • ground black pepper
  • avocados
  • lime juice
  • brioche hamburger buns

How to Make Smashed Avocado Burgers

Preheat a cast iron grill pan or skillet over medium high heat. In a large bowl add the ground turkey, panko bread crumbs, egg, Worchestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder and 1 tsp each of salt and pepper. Using your hands mix they turkey mixture until just combined. Form into 4 patties, placing an indent in the center to prevent the burger patty from doming as it cooks.

Cook the burgers for 5-6 minutes on each side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 165 โ„‰. Transfer to a plate and allow the burger to rest for 5 minutes before serving.

While the burgers are cooking prepare the smashed avocado mixture. Cut each avocado in half and remove the pit, spoon the avocado into a medium bowl. Add in the lime juice as well as the remaining salt and pepper and using a potato masher or spoon smash until combined. Spread the avocado mixture on the inside each half of the hamburger bun and top with the turkey burger. Add additional toppings such as lettuce, tomato, pickled onions or cheese if desired.
