With the weather turning crisp and and trees ablaze with color it’s definitely the season for all things apple, especially cocktails. Simple to make yet surprisingly balanced and complex this apple cider cable car is an autumnal take on a modern classic. Just four ingredients, chilled and shaken well, come together for one of my new favorite cocktails. A few sips of my apple cider cable car cocktail and this is bound to become one of your favorite fall drinks too.

History of the Cable Car

Apple Cider Cable Car Cocktail

The Cable Car is considered by many to be a modern classic cocktail. This drink was created by bartender Tony Abou-Ganim at the Starlight Room in San Francisco and is named for the cable car tracks that run by the restaurant.

I made a few changes to the traditional cable car cocktail recipe based off of my personal preferences and what I had in my home bar. The original drink uses Captain Morgan’s spiced rum, but I swapped this out for an aged rum (Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva) that I really wanted to use though any aged or spiced rum would be delicious. I also used Cointreau instead of orange curaçao since I always have this versatile orange brandy on hand.

How to make an Apple Cider Cable Car

This drink has four simple ingredients and couldn’t be easier to make. Just combine apple cider, rum, Cointreau and lemon juice in a shaker along with some ice. Shake and strain into a coupe glass and you’ve got a nicely balanced cocktail that belies it’s simplicity. Looking for another great fall cocktail? Try this delicious whiskey pumpkin cocktail!

01/28/21. This an extremely tasty cocktail. I live next to an apple orchard that make organic apple cider so I’ve been looking for exactly this seasonal beverage. Most people publish recipes to make jugs or gallons; I only wanted one (or two). This Apple Cider Cable Car Cocktail is smooth, you can still taste the cider and it’s a nice simple recipe!
    I highly recommend it!
