What is Avocado Crema?
Mexican crema is a tangy condiment made from heavy cream, buttermilk, lime juice and salt. Avocado crema is similar but replaces the heavy cream and buttermilk with rich avocado and sour cream. Garlic, cilantro and lime juice bring a touch of acidity and freshness to balance out the richness of the avocado.
What Can I Serve Avocado Crema with?
Avocado crema is incredibly versatile and pairs well with a variety of dishes. I love it with steak, chicken, seafood, any and all kinds of tacos. Avocado crema also makes a great salad dressing or dip for chips and veggies. The possibilities are endless!
How to Make Avocado Lime Crema
This recipe is exceedingly simple to make. Grab a food processor and toss in avocados, sour cream ( you can also use Greek yogurt in avocado crema if that’s what you have on hand), cilantro (no need to chop, you can even throw in the stems as they have tons of flavor), a bit of lime juice, garlic salt and pepper. Blend everything together until your crema is smooth and creamy, that’s it! If you like a thinner consistency you can blend in some extra lime juice or water as well.

Equipment
- Food processor
Ingredients
- 2 avocados pits and skins removed
- 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro
- 2 tbsp lime juice
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 2 cloves garlic
Instructions
- Place all items in a food processor and blend until smooth.
- Serve as desired.
