Equipment

  • 2 quart baking dish

Ingredients

  • 4 large apples peeled and sliced
  • 6 oz blackberries
  • 2 tbsp white sugar
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

For the crumble topping

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup walnuts chopped
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened and cubed

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Toss the sliced apples with white sugar and cinnamon and set aside for 10 minutes.
  • Add the blackberries, cornstarch, lemon juice and vanilla to the apples and stir to combine. Transfer to a 2 quart baking dish.
  • While the apples are macerating prepare the streusel topping. Add oats, brown sugar, flour, walnuts, cinnamon and salt to a bowl and stir combine. Add the softened cubed butter and mix in with a pastry blender, knife or your hands until the streusel topping has a crumbly texture.
  • Sprinkle the topping over the apples. Transfer the crumble to the oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the filling is bubbly and the streusel is golden.
